About

A clear conviction.

Organisations perform best when direction is clear, effort is focused and experience is translated into practical action that creates value.

Commitment needs direction.

“Leaders rarely lack energy, ambition or intent. The harder work is making sure all of that effort is aimed at the moves that matter.”

— Julie Browne, Director, JD Browne Consulting

JD Browne Consulting was founded on a simple belief: organisations perform best when direction is clear, effort is focused, and experience is translated into practical action that creates value.

After 25 years working with leaders across private, public and government organisations, one thing has been constant — the sheer commitment leaders bring to moving their organisations forward. Our role is to make sure that commitment is pointed in the right direction.

In today's world, the external pace is relentless. AI, accelerating technology, shifting demographics, changing customer behaviour, geopolitical uncertainty. The pressure to keep up is constant — and that pressure can create movement without clarity. At JD Browne Consulting, the focus is on the work that helps leaders make the next move clearly.

She starts with questions, not answers.

That instinct was shaped over 25 years working with senior leaders, primarily in the UK and Ireland. Julie's path has run from a strategy consulting boutique in Dublin to Partner at one of the Big 4, leading work across the island of Ireland. She is based in Holywood, just outside Belfast, and works across Northern Ireland and Ireland — with work also taking her to Great Britain, Europe and the United States.

Clients have spanned financial services, private equity, government and public sector, energy and utilities, healthcare and professional services. The common thread: complex, regulated, people-intensive.

She has been in the room when the answer was buried under complexity, when teams were busy but losing ground, and when the right question, asked clearly, changed everything.

A few examples of where this work usually begins…

  • The plan from 18 months ago no longer fits the reality you're operating in.
  • "What does winning look like?" gets a different answer from everyone you ask.
  • People come to meetings. The real conversation happens after.
  • Your best people are on everything. Nothing quite breaks through.
  • Every milestone's been hit. No one can say what's actually changed.
  • Performance dipped, so another initiative got added to the pile.
  • Everyone left the offsite believing. The delivery never caught up.
  • Your intention is to sell one day. You don't know what needs to change first.

"Julie had me at 'the business of growth.' She thinks like an investor and brings a sharp strategic mind, with the agility of someone from a much smaller firm than the one she came from. She has taken something we ran on instinct and helped us shape it into a workable, repeatable system our leadership team can get behind and drive forward. The concept was hers. The alignment and buy-in it has built across our team is real, and we're just getting started."

Questions we're often asked.

Who is Julie Browne?

Julie Browne is the founder and director of JD Browne Consulting, a strategy and transformation consultant with 25 years' experience across the UK and Ireland. Julie started her career in Dublin, after studying to postgraduate level at Trinity College Dublin and at the UCD Michael Smurfit Graduate Business School. It was in Dublin that she cut her teeth in strategy at a boutique consulting house, working primarily in financial services and technology. She continued her consulting career in Belfast, spending ten years at EY, latterly as a Partner, and has also held a C-suite operating role leading global operations through growth and change. She lives in Holywood with her family, and when not working can be found on a golf course or walking the dogs.

What is Julie Browne's approach as a strategy and transformation consultant?

She starts with questions, not answers. Before committing time, capital or people, Julie makes sure the right issue is being addressed. Once direction is clear, the work moves and effort concentrates on what matters. She'll cut to the chase, but only once the data creates clarity. Deliverables land in MVP format, iterated in the live environment with you.

Does Julie Browne work independently, or as part of a bigger consulting firm?

Julie. Personally. Every engagement is led and delivered by her, from the first conversation to the final piece of work. Where additional capacity is needed, she draws on a trusted network of senior associates and partners — brought in selectively, for the right engagement, at the right time.

What industries has Julie Browne worked in?

Financial services, private equity, government and public sector, energy and utilities, healthcare, professional services and technology. Primarily across the UK and Ireland. The settings vary. The pattern is consistent: complex, regulated, people-intensive environments where decisions carry real consequence.

Where is Julie Browne based, and where does she work?

Julie is based in Holywood, County Down, just outside Belfast, and works across the UK and Ireland. Most engagements are in Northern Ireland and Ireland — travelling to Dublin and elsewhere on the island when the work calls for it — and she takes engagements in Great Britain where the fit is right. Julie also works in the United States — with US-based teams, on specific projects, and increasingly through growth-focused partnerships in that market. Where an engagement reaches further afield, she collaborates with partners and associates.
