How we work.
We work at the intersection of strategy, transformation and disciplined execution. Every engagement starts with the right questions.

“Simplicity is often the key. Get back to first principles. Be honest about where value really lies. Then identify the right choices.”
— Julie Browne, Director, JD Browne Consulting
About UsQuestions uncover direction.
Before committing time, capital or people, we make sure we're addressing the issue that needs attention — not the one that's easiest to label.
Behind most requests for help sit real pressures: diluted customer experience, margin erosion, rising cost-to-serve, stalled growth, stretched leadership capacity and increasing delivery risk.
Our role is to help leadership teams see the situation clearly and choose a course they can deliver.

We listen first, then plot a path that fits your situation.
Defining what matters
Our work is grounded in value: defining what matters, measuring it properly and using evidence to guide decisions and iteration.
While every situation is unique, our work often begins in one of four places. The path we plot together will be built specifically for you.
Strategy
When to engage
Your leadership team can't agree on what winning means. You're firefighting quarter-to-quarter. The plan from 18 months ago no longer fits the reality you're operating in — markets have shifted, technology has moved, the economic and geopolitical picture keeps changing the ground underneath you.

What it is
Strategy work clarifies direction, defines competitive advantage and sets the choices that determine long-term value creation. One route in is a structured sprint that answers the core questions for sustainable growth: what winning looks like, where you'll play, how you'll win, what capabilities you need, and how you'll know it's working. The output is an MVP Strategic Plan you test and refine in the live environment.
What changes
Clear direction. Your team knows what matters most. Choices are made.
Execution & Value Focus
When to engage
You have more initiatives than you can resource properly. Everything is a priority, which means nothing is. Teams are busy, the reporting looks healthy, but the dial isn't moving on the things that matter.

When to engage
You have more initiatives than you can resource properly. Everything is a priority, which means nothing is. Teams are busy, the reporting looks healthy, but the dial isn't moving on the things that matter.
What it is
Clear focus on the few moves that create most of the value. We look at the business the way an investor would — what's creating value, what's diluting it, what you'd fund and what you'd stop. Work that doesn't matter gets paused. Measurement shifts from activity to results. Resource follows the priorities.
What changes
Effort concentrates. Performance shifts. The organisation learns to say no.
Board & Executive Facilitation
When to engage
A decision is coming that will shape the next two or three years, and the room isn't aligned. The conversations you need to have aren't happening. You need someone in the room who has no agenda other than helping you get to the right answer.

What it is
Trusted challenge and facilitation at moments where decisions carry real consequences. An independent voice that surfaces what isn't being said, tests the thinking, and keeps the conversation honest.
What changes
Independent insight when the path isn't obvious. The right things get debated. Confidence in the decision you make.
Transformation
When to engage
The way you run the business no longer matches what customers need. Layers and handoffs are getting in the way of delivering. Technology sits on the edge of the business rather than running through it.

What it is
A structured reshaping of how the business creates value — the operating model, the capabilities you need next, the culture that lets the organisation keep adapting. Built around the strategy, focused on the customer, sequenced so the organisation can absorb it.
What changes
Decisions happen closer to the work. Technology is harnessed, not piloted. Capability is built for what's next. The business is set up to deliver — and to keep adapting.
Where to start.
Whether you need a short intervention or sustained support, we start the same way: with the right questions.
Most engagements begin when leaders notice patterns they can't shift on their own — serial firefighting, repeating last year without the numbers moving, leadership teams struggling to solve problems together, or complexity slowing execution.
If any of this sounds familiar, we can help you figure out what's going on and what to do about it.

Useful to know
Questions we're often asked.
What services does JD Browne Consulting offer?
Our work is grounded in value: defining what matters, measuring it properly and using evidence to guide decisions and iteration. While every situation is unique, the work often begins in one of four places — Strategy, Execution & Value Focus, Board & Executive Facilitation, or Transformation. The path we plot together will be built specifically for you.
What does strategy work involve?
Working out where you'll play and how you'll win — your market, your customer base, what they actually value, and what your business has to be good at (competitive advantage) to earn their loyalty over anyone else. Strategy work is delivered as a sprint, producing an MVP strategic plan you test and refine in the live environment rather than a document that sits on a shelf. This work sits under Strategy.
What does a transformation consultant do?
A transformation consultant — sometimes called a business transformation advisor or organisational transformation consultant — reshapes how a business delivers for its customers. Organisations accumulate complexity as they grow, and complexity puts distance between the business and the people it serves. Transformation closes that distance: a structured reshaping of how the business creates value — the operating model, the capabilities you need next, the culture that lets the organisation keep adapting. Built around the strategy, focused on the customer, sequenced so the organisation can absorb it. This work sits under Transformation.
What is board and executive facilitation, and what does it involve?
It's independent challenge and facilitation at moments where decisions carry real consequence — a board offsite, a leadership team's toughest call, a decision that will shape the next two or three years. Julie works as a board facilitator and executive facilitator, with no agenda other than helping the room reach the right answer. This work sits under Board & Executive Facilitation.
Do I need an operating model consultant, or is that the same as a transformation consultant?
An operating model consultant focuses specifically on how work gets done — structure, decision rights, handoffs, and how quickly the organisation can respond to what customers need. It's usually one part of a wider transformation. JD Browne Consulting handles both within Transformation: reshaping the operating model as part of a broader programme, or as a standalone piece of work.
How does a value creation consultant improve business performance?
By looking at the business the way an investor would — what's creating value, what's diluting it, what you'd fund and what you'd stop. Value is created where the business meets its customers, so that's where the attention goes. Measurement shifts from activity to results, and resource follows the priorities that move performance. This work sits under Execution & Value Focus.
What sectors does JD Browne Consulting work in?
Julie works with boards, executives and leadership teams in financial services, private equity, government and public sector, energy and utilities, healthcare, technology and professional services. The settings vary. The pattern is consistent: complex, regulated, people-intensive environments where decisions carry real consequence.
Can you work as part of our leadership team rather than as an external consultant?
Yes. Julie can work inside the company on a retained basis rather than delivering a project and moving on. Where a firm needs someone consistently in the room, a retained arrangement — focused on the outcomes that matter most — is often the better solution.
We might sell in a few years. When should we start preparing?
Earlier than most people do. The things that hold value at sale take two or three years to build and can't be assembled in the six months before a process starts. The useful work is the work you'd want to do anyway — done with a clear view of how a buyer will read the business: what they will pay for, what they will discount, and what they will want evidence of. Julie has worked on the investor side, on how value gets built and assessed across a portfolio, so that view is grounded rather than theoretical.
